The Technical Committee of Referees has chosen César Soto Gradoreferee of the Rioja Committee, to direct the Copa del Rey quarterfinal match between Real Betis and Atlético de Madrid, this Thursday, February 5 in La Cartuja. At 44 years old, Soto Grado is one of the referees with the longest career in First Division and will have Pulido Santana in charge of the VAR.
International since 2018, the Riojan stands out for his conversational profile and his tendency to let play. Their numbers reflect opposite trajectories: Atlético has barely lost once with him in 18 official matches, while Betis has only won three of the 14 matches refereed by Soto Grado. A contrast that once again places the referee in the spotlight before a high-tension tie.
