The podcast Offsiders interview this week with former soccer player Sergio Gontán, ‘Keko’.
During his intervention he reveals that, during his time at Fútbol Club Cartagena, during the 2010-2011 season in the Second Division, his coach, Juan Ignacio Martínez, used a curious method to capture the attention of the squad.
According to Gontán, the coach included pornographic scenes in the study videos of his own game and that of his opponent.
“He was quite a psychologist. He knew that attention is lost every three or four minutes. So, he played a few seconds of a pornographic video. We were all like meerkats,” says the interviewee.
The objective of this plan was to keep the athletes on alert and prevent them from being distracted in this process.
Martínez directed the Unión Deportiva Salamanca in the second category of national football in the 2007-2008 campaign, so the question is evident: Did he use this formula to motivate a team that finished seventh in the League?
The answer, as some of its members reveal to Onda Cero Salamancais affirmative: “He was ahead of his time.”
