MILAN – Goalkeeper Adam Gajan did not fly to Milan together with the delegation of the Slovak hockey team, he should arrive at the venue of the 2026 Olympics only on Thursday. The reason is that part of his equipment still hasn’t arrived from overseas.
“It’s here tomorrow. It’s not a complication, we just wanted to avoid sending equipment from Vienna to Milan, because this was already chaos. The equipment was supposed to fly from Denver to Vienna, but inexplicably flew from Vienna to Minneapolis. But this is hockey, it’s part of it, and you have to reckon with it.” informed goalkeeper coach Ján Lašák.
According to him, Gajan did not lose anything important, as the national team arrived at the venue of the Olympic tournament well in advance. “He will be on the ice in Bratislava. He will come prepared, basically he will not miss anything. The training sessions are now short, so there is absolutely no hockey complication. Some teams are not even here yet, we are here a week ahead, so we are in a completely comfortable situation.” said Lašák after the first training of the national team.
The Slovaks tried out the new arena in Milan for the first time. At Wednesday’s training, they also tested the ice surface. “The stadium is beautiful, what would we give for it. As for the ice surface, the ice is as if it is hollow, as if there is something under it, you can hear sounds under it. It is so strange, but the conditions are the same for everyone, it will reflect the same way for everyone from behind the goal. However, the stadium is beautiful, the first impression is very good,” continued Lašák.
He added to the first training session: “The system we are preparing for has been made, that’s why we have other guys here so that we can train fully. From the point of view of the goalkeepers, today was a good warm-up. At the end, there was a shooting exercise, so everything a goalkeeper needs.”
