Olympics: Audio Description for Visually Impaired Viewers

Making the excitement of the Olympic and Paralympic Games truly accessible to everyone. This is the objective of the new audio description service activated in view of Milano Cortina 2026, designed to allow blind and partially sighted people to fully experience the opening and closing ceremonies, all the competitions of the Paralympic Games and most of the Olympic ones.

The project was born from the collaboration between Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and the territories that will host the Games (Lombardy Region, Veneto Region, Autonomous Province of Trento, Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Municipality of Anterselva/Antholz) and offers the blind or visually impaired spectator not a standard commentary of the events, but an objective and detailed description of what happens: the action, the athletes, the protagonists, the costumes, the body language, the facial expressions, the settings and every useful element to follow the progress of the competitions. The service will be available in Italian, with commentary in English and, where applicable, also in German.

How to use the service? Anyone in possession of a ticket for a ceremony or competition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games will receive instructions directly. Those who wish to use it remotely can request information and accreditation methods by writing to the address audiodescrizione.giochi@uicimilano.org. Thanks to the collaboration with the Istituto dei Ciechi Foundation of Milan, all the information will be provided.
