Free from any contract, Spanish defender Sergio Ramos could make his return to Sevilla FC, both as a player and owner of the club.
Without a club since December after announcing his departure from the Mexican club Monterrey, Sergio Ramos could soon be determined about his future. At 39, the central defender is looking for a new project, both sporting and non-sporting.
And it seems that the plan has been found. At the beginning of January, the English and Spanish press explained that the former Real Madrid and PSG player would have sent a letter of intent, along with several partners, in order to buy Sevilla FC for a total cost estimated at around 450 million euros.
That’s not all. This Tuesday, AS reports that Sergio Ramos would not only like to become a co-owner of the club, but also return as a player. The player offered his help to the Andalusian team, struggling in the championship (15th, 24 points), which he already worked with between 2003 and 2006 then during the 2023/2024 season.
Player or owner, Ramos will have to choose
Despite the closure of the winter transfer window this Monday, the arrival of the Spanish central defender at Sevilla FC can happen at any time. Ramos has been free for several weeks after his choice not to extend with Monterrey.
However, he will have to choose. Regulations, both Spanish and French, prohibit an individual from simultaneously taking on the role of player and owner within the same club, or during a confrontation with it, for reasons of conflict of interest. This scenario therefore turns out to be very unlikely, given the length of the administrative procedures when buying a football team.
