OM Squad: Longoria Addresses Instability

Pablo Longoria responded to criticism of OM’s strategy on the transfer market.

For some supporters and consultants, the lack of stability of the OM workforce partly explains Roberto De Zerbi’s difficulties in setting up a well-oiled collective. Questioned on the subject, the Marseille president highlighted the economic reality of French football.

« Naturally. Especially for a coach who must build a collective ambition. It’s true that there have been a lot of changes. Stability, having players who have been playing together for a while helps (…) It is my responsibility to also talk about the situation of a French club. Benfica has just signed an agreement on the marketing of its rights at 157 million euros per season. Olympique de Marseille, this season, is around 17 million euros according to our estimates“, regretted Pablo Longoria who wanted to recall the progress made by the club over the past six years.

« It’s an economic question. Playing the Champions League, the championship, trying to improve your squad at every opportunity, it’s logical. Adapt the squad to the coach, improve the individual level of the players. The OM of 2020, when I arrived, is not the one of today“, he insisted.
