UDLAP Aztecas: ABE League Basketball Returns

The UDLAP Aztecs are reported ready for the continuation of the basketball season in the ABE League, after a preparation period focused on strengthening their collective performance and fine-tuning key details for the 2026 commitments, which begin this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Morris Moe Williams Gymnasium.

Curiously, the Green Tribe of men’s basketball closed 2025 for the UDLAP and will be the one to open the actions in 2026 when it receives the Anáhuac Querétaro at the Moe Williams Gymnasium, at the official start of the second semester of the Student Basketball Association League (ABE). “Always playing against Anáhuac is interesting because there is a lot of intensity in the game, but we are prepared to face them, we have 8 rookies so it will be an interesting combination between experience and youth to continue fighting to get into the Big Eight,” said the Aztecs basketball coach, Angélica García Mancio.

Likewise, coach García pointed out that the team has worked intensely on physical, tactical and strategic aspects during the league’s pause time, with the objective of maintaining a high competitive level. Even during the preparation matches they have had, he has seen a combination of experience and talent to glimpse a consolidation of his style of play. “We come with the mentality of winning the away games and of course at home, because here we are not going to leave our home uncovered, we also have the Basketball Classic on February 20 and that keeps us focused,” he said.

It is worth remembering that the Azteca team begins the second round of the season 2 games away from entering the qualification zone playoffsthat is why this home game will be key to start the path towards this stage of defining medals. Therefore, Coach García invited the university community and the basketball fans to accompany them in the remainder of the season, reaffirming the pride and identity that distinguish the sports program. “We are down a few positions because we have two games left from the last round, in reality now we are going to play 20 games instead of 18, so we have a minimum degree of error to be able to get into the Big Eight,” explained the Aztecs basketball coach.

From the women’s team, García Mancio stated that she is preparing for the rest of the season and with the arrival of a player in the position guardthe Azteca team is more cohesive, balanced and ready to face the second round of the competition. This representative of the UDLAP is currently in the qualification zone, but must win the greatest number of games to stay within and climb positions, starting next February 6 when it faces Anáhuac México Norte, who is below the Azteca team.

For their part, the rest of the Aztecas UDLAP teams begin activities the following week, beginning on February 6 with the start of the season for men’s soccer; On February 13 it will be the turn of women’s soccer, women’s and men’s volleyball, although they will all be in visitor mode.
