Both extra-league playoffs on Friday did not find a winner after sixty minutes of play. In the direct battle for second place, Karlovy Vary beat Liberec 3:2 after separate raids thanks to a Petr Tomek strike, Kometa then defeated Motor with Andrej Kollár’s goal and won 4:3 in overtime.

Kometa is one of Motor’s favorite opponents, who took at least a point from it for the seventh time in a row, but even the impulse in the form of sports manager Jiří Novotný on the substitutes did not help to avert the fifth defeat in a row. Slovakian forward Andrej Kollár broke up the drama in the south of Moravia in overtime during a four-on-three game. Back Libor Zábranský struck for the fifteenth time in the season, 16-year-old Michal Hartl scored the first point for an assist. Brno remains eighth and České Budějovice tenth.

Jiří Horáček (Komety Brno coach): “Tough game. We are happy that we finally found a way to win. Even though it is two points behind, it is extremely valuable. We are very happy that we manage to win games in front of the home fans. Míša Hartl’s first point in the extra league and very good special teams, in the end, they decided.”

Jiří Hanzlík (assistant coach of České Budějovice): “We saw a match between two teams that are not exactly in an ideal mood. We tried to play actively, I think we caused Brno a problem in the offensive and defensive zone and vice versa. You can see that they have quality on the stick. We made an unfortunate offensive foul from some pressure and activity and were punished for it.”

On Thursday, Karlovy Vary beat Liberec 3:2 after raids. The same result was also born on Friday, but after a different course. Energy was losing in the direct fight for the second spot, then led with another goal by the youngster Petr Tomek 2:1, but Adam Najman sent the match to extra time and the subsequent skills discipline. In it, Dominik Frodl did not get a goal and thus embellished a great performance supported by 42 saves. The West Bohemians are one point ahead of the White Tigers, 17-year-old Tomek scored the winning goal.

David Moravec (assistant coach of Karlovy Vary): “We saw playoff hockey with personal battles. The game spilled from one side to the other, for a while the opponent was better, for a while we were better and it went to overtime. It’s a shame that we got a goal when the opponent was in six, although we were preparing for it. We knew that they are strong in the power play area in front of the goal and they combine well there. We are happy that the second point goes to us in the end. Thank you to all the players, because two The matches in a row were very challenging. I think they will serve as study material for the future. We are happy to gradually collect points, but we need to continue to work and prepare for what will happen after the long break.”

Jiří Kudrna (coach of Liberec): “I dare say that we saw the playoff matches on both days. They were huge battles. We had a good start to the game, we forechecked well and were strong in movement. Of course, we were a little bit hampered by the weakness, but we defended excellently and scored a goal. We did not succeed in entering the second period, where we conceded when we were weakened. The home team was a more active team in the second period, we only resisted the pressure with all our strength and behind Petr Kváči’s contribution was not good at the start, but we went for the equalizer. I think we were a slightly better team in extra time. As for the raids, we have to work on them for the second time.”
