Madagascar will be represented in Gaborone, Botswana, during the African Badminton Championships. Irina Razakasoavina, Herizo Rakotoarinivo and Tokinirina “Joy” Razafimandimby, reinforced by the expatriate Lalaina Ramanana Rahary, will wear the national colors during this continental game scheduled for February 9 to 15.
This trip was made possible thanks to the personal efforts of Malagasy athletes. According to Jean Aimé Ravalison, president of the Malagasy Badminton Federation, the players financed their participation themselves. The departure of the Malagasy delegation is now almost complete.
During the meeting between the leaders of the federations and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Alain Désiré Rasambany, a week ago, the president of the Malagasy Badminton Federation requested state support for this trip. On Thursday, the Malagasy delegation was welcomed by the minister in his offices.
The Malagasy team begins the competition with the team events, from February 9 to 11 in Gaborone. The individual events, singles and doubles, will then take place from February 12 to 15.
