Returning to Catalan lands, Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos will compete in its second consecutive away game, a commitment in which it will face Bàsquet Girona, this Saturday, at 9:00 p.m., at the Palau Girona-Fontajau. The team led by Porfi Fisac will open the second round of the Endesa League with the precise mentality to seek a victory on which to cement the path to the goal of permanence in this new half of the league competition.
The Castilians fell in their match last week against Hiopos Lleida, with a controversial final action in the Barris Nord, in which no foul was called on Gonzalo Corbalán. Asked about this situation, the Segovian coach pointed out: “In my sport what I like most is justice and I believe that everyone has to be fair with their decisions. Sometimes, when a player of mine misses a free kick, he misses it for me, for my team. But when a referee misses a decision or has a wrong decision, it does not fail for him, for his team, it fails for mine and that is not fair.”
Despite everything, Porfi Fisac continues to work with the squad to have the right mentality with which to face each of the Endesa League matches: “No one likes to lose, but I always say that that is a bit of my job. We can put them in or not put them in, in the end it is a question of talent or the moment, but the attitude, the disposition, the desire and the hunger cannot be negotiated. These are situations that we always have to have yes or yes. It is the coach’s responsibility that people go with that degree of drive, hunger, ambition and hope.”
The coach of Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos has spoken about the hardness of achieving the objective: “We are going to have to suffer until the end, let no one doubt this. We are going to have to be a whole, tough and brave team until the end. We do not have the disposition due to classification, results and the position in which we are in which we are going to achieve the objective soon and be able to live in peace. We live in a world of demands and for us, in this competition we are in, it is no longer just demand, but rather it is the excitement of achieving a difficult challenge right now.”
To begin to cement the path to salvation, the people of Burgos will once again seek victory at home: “A victory is everything because nothing exists after Saturday. Saturday is the only day we play. That is my mentality and that is the mentality that I want to transmit. A victory right now means saving us. I don’t want us to play matchday 18, I want us to play matchday 33. And I hope my players are in that idea of being able to play this day knowing what we have in front of us.”
To appear in the match on the Girona court, the coach will have Dani Díez absent, of whom he pointed out: “We hope that in the weeks of break with the Copa del Rey and the FIBA window we can incorporate him into the group”, and has spoken of the reinstatement of Luke Fischer to the group work, in addition to the overload or muscular problems of Raul Neto and Juan Rubio, although “we believe that in both cases they will be able to participate.”
Bàsquet Girona, a rival with good rhythm that stands out in rebounds and external success
This eighteenth day of the Endesa League will start with Bàsquet Girona as the eleventh classified, with a balance of eight wins and nine losses. The team led by Moncho Fernández comes from having signed a victory against Casademont Zaragoza (90-94), in which the guard Mark Hughes (24 points for 27 rating credits), the point guard Guillem Ferrando, the center Martinas Geben (both with a rating of 15), the center Juan Fernández (13 rating) and the forward Sergi Martínez (10 rating) stood out.
Within the squad, the work of Geben has stood out, the fourth player in the acb with the best percentage in the middle distance (70.5% success), and at a collective level, the Catalans stand out for being the third best team in the league in rebounds (38.18 average catches), the third in defensive rebounds (26.47) and the third in three-point shots (10.88 average triples).
Regarding these keys, Porfi Fisac has developed: “We have to be very solid in rebounding work, very solid, very alert, very alive and with very good rotation in the work of the three-point shot. We have to reduce those two things: one by attacking us and the other trying to make that three-point shot a battle, for us to raise our percentages a little, but also our number of those shots. In the end, it is no longer so much about those who score, but those that you score. And that is where “Where the difference lies and where the advantage lies.”
The Castilian coach has stressed: “We know perfectly well that it is another difficult game, that we are playing away from home, against a team that is performing at a very good level, with a very good rotation and a great rhythm. We have to be able at all times to have mutual respect for the counterattack, for the rhythm they have, but above all to value each other very much because we have to play at the highest level, with a very important degree of success, to be able to get a victory from Girona.”
With the keys on the table, Recoletas Salud San Pablo Burgos will fight to repeat the victory against Bàsquet Girona in the first round match with which both teams opened the Endesa League season, and which would now mark the fourth victory for the Burgos team, in a match that will open the second half of the league, this Saturday, from 9:00 p.m., at the Palau Girona-Fontajau.
