Created at the beginning of October in Mirepoix, the Volants Mirapiciens badminton club is off to a promising start, attracting many members thanks to free practice and a friendly, family atmosphere.
Born at the beginning of October, the new badminton club in Mirepoix, called “Les Volants mirapiciens”, very quickly met its audience. In a few weeks, the association has already attracted 80 members, from 10 to 74 years old, confirming that the discipline attracts well beyond just competitors: here, we also come to share a simple, sporting and friendly moment, often with family.
At the head of the office, a team of committed volunteers: Emilie Marco, president, David Marco, secretary, and Stéphane Clere, treasurer, supported by Mathieu Bénard, Cindy Meslin and Huguette Rabino. Their objective is clear: to offer free practice, in dedicated slots, where everyone plays singles or doubles depending on their desires, level and number of participants. Without a coach at the moment, the club is focusing on autonomy… and on the house spirit: a flexible operation favoring meetings, mixing generations and creating a frankly “family” atmosphere, between couples, parents, children and groups of friends.
The exchanges are organized at the Perrine-Laffont gymnasium of the school campus, with three weekly meetings: Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., ideal for a day out; Thursday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., to extend the evening with rackets in hand; and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., a very popular time to end the weekend in action and in a good mood.
For members, the interest is twofold: the proximity, of course, but above all the atmosphere. Emma, a new licensee, says: “It’s nice that there is a club in Mirepoix. It’s close, it’s where I live. I’ve met new people in a friendly atmosphere, there’s a good team spirit. I advise people to come and discover the Volants Mirapiciens club.”
Same enthusiasm from the president, Emilie Marco, who recalls the collective momentum of this start: “The Volants Mirapiciens club is a young club that we created with a few volunteers and the support of the Ligue Occitanie. We are proud to have today more than 70 members. We organized our first internal tournament on Sunday, followed by a Spanish hostel, which was a great success with 44 participants. I encourage all people who want to play sports in a friendly atmosphere to join us within the Mirapician Flyers.”
First successful internal tournament, unifying Spanish hostel, increasing numbers: in Mirepoix, badminton has found its ground, driven by a collective dynamic and a real pleasure of playing together.
