From today, Thursday, January 29, to Sunday, February 1, the seventh edition of the Andalusian Benalmádena Spanish Open U15 and U17 badmintonwhich will be held in the Arroyo de la Miel Pavilion and which brings together about 300 young promises of this modality sports from various countries.
Organized by the Spanish Badminton Federation, the Andalusian Badminton Federation and the Benalmádena Badminton Club, the tournament has the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Government of Andalusiathe Malaga Provincial Council and the Benalmádena City Council.
The event is one of the great international badminton events and this edition presents as the main novelty the extension of the tournament for one more day. The high participation once again stands out in the competition, which will bring together promising world badminton players between the U15 and U17 categories, confirming Benalmádena as one of the great European epicenters of grassroots badminton. A growing interest that reinforces the international prestige of the Andalusian tournament.
In Sub15, the championship will have 90 athletes, of which 78 will be Spanish and 12 players from countries such as the Czech Republic, Italy, Denmark, Romania, Sweden or China. It is worth highlighting the participation of up to 27 Andalusian players, from the clubs of Ronda (2), Rute (8), Sierra Morena (2), Almería (1), Arjonilla (3), Benalmádena (7), IES La Orden (1), Jorge Guillén (1), Montilla (1) and Rinconada (1).
The high volume of registrations is especially reflected in the individual tests, which concentrate the largest number of participants, and in a balanced male and female participation (50 male and 40 female players), The U15 competition will take place starting today, Thursday, with the group stage, advancing over the weekend to the final qualifiers, which will take place on Sunday.
The U17 category, for its part, will raise the competitive level even further, with 199 registrations distributed among the five tests and the presence of athletes of up to ten nationalities: Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, England, Poland, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and Spain.
The favorites to take into account in this Spanish U17 Open will be the Danish Axel Boesen, the Swede Ludvig Marmsten, the German Ian Baumann, the Andalusian Guillermo Muñoz and the
also Spaniards Raúl Hernández and Jorge Royo in the men’s section. And, on the other hand, the Dutch Daria Demchykina and Eloise Gugliemetti, the German Helena Huang and the Spanish Belén Soto and Nuria Serra in the women’s section. Andalusia will be represented by a total of 27 athletes.
Spain once again has an important weight in an event that guarantees a very high level from the first rounds. The competition begins today, Thursday at noon, and will progress progressively until the semi-finals and finals are held on Sunday morning.
