LeBron James He doesn’t know if Wednesday night marked his last visit to Cleveland as a professional player. What was clear is that, if that moment comes, the city and the Cavaliers were responsible for reminding him how much he means to them.

During a pause in the first quarter, the stadium screened a video tribute with emblematic images of his career. The star, born in Akron, a few kilometers from there, could not contain his emotion and he wiped his tears with a towel while watching the screen, in a scene that moved the entire audience.

“It definitely affected me.. It wasn’t the highlights, it was just being present,” LeBron acknowledged after the Los Angeles Lakers lost 129-99. “I’m trying to live in the moment because I don’t know if this is the last time I play here.”he added.

The tribute included clips from one of the most memorable nights of his career: Game 5 of the 2007 Eastern Finals against Detroit, when he scored 25 consecutive points and led Cleveland to a victory in double overtime. That performance ended with 48 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, and paved the way for the team’s first qualification to the NBA Finals.

“There are many memories and a lot of history. I remember that moment as if it were yesterday,” confessed the star, who played 11 seasons in two stages with the Cavaliers and was the first pick in the 2003 draft.

For Lakers coach JJ Redick, the tribute revealed a more intimate side of the player: “It’s a situation full of emotions. Coming back here is important for him. There is a human side to all of this.”

In terms of sports, the night was adverse. LeBron scored 11 points, his lowest record in 13 appearances in Cleveland as an opponent, and suffered the heaviest defeat in that stadium wearing a Lakers jersey.

The brightest moment of the closing came with the income of his son Bronny Jameswho played the final minutes and contributed eight points. “It was something special for our family. That my mother can see her son and grandson play in the NBA is something surreal,” LeBron noted.

At 41 years old and in his 23rd season, the forward admitted that he is still not thinking about a farewell tour, although he recognizes that each presentation has a different weight: “I am in a battle with Father Time and I am taking it personally.”
