Institute Debate League – Jan 29, 2026

The winners will face the winners of the rest of the participating municipalities

44 compulsory secondary school students from eight high schools in the city will participate in the fourth edition of the School Debate League organized by the UNED and the town councils of Fuenlabrada, Leganés, Alcorcón, Getafe and Parla, in collaboration with the educational centers.

“It is about students approaching the field of debate, practicing oratory skills and losing their fear of speaking in public, while promoting their ability to work as a team and their critical thinking, tools that are essential today in the workplace,” explained the Councilor for Education Ana María Pérez.

The topic of debate for this edition, on which teams will have to defend their positions for or against, will be: ‘Is it correct to use animal experimentation for Science?’

The School Debate League has a local phase that begins tomorrow, January 30, in Fuenlabrada, and continues until March 24, when the final will be held with the winning teams of each of the semifinals.

The winner and the semi-finalist will take part in the Intermunicipal phase of the Debate League, where they will debate with the finalist teams from the rest of the participating municipalities and which will begin on April 7.

The IES José Luis López Aranguren, the IES Salvador Allende, IES Carpe Diem, IES Victoria Kent, IES Jimena Menéndez Pidal, the CEIPSO Salvador Dalí, Bartolomé Cossio school and Albanta school are the centers that participate in Fuenlabrada.

Along with the 44 students from 2nd, 3rd and 4th ESO from the Fuenlabrada centers, there are also 16 teachers who train each of the teams.
In the last edition, the winner of the local phase in Fuenlabrada was the Jimena Menéndez Pidal institute.
