Judokas BC: Road to Ontario 2026

From this eliminatory, the athletes who finish in first and second place per category will advance to the “Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi” National Qualifier.

Tijuana, Baja California.– The process to integrate the Baja California judo team, which will represent the state in the 2026 National Olympiad, will begin this weekend with the State Championship, an event convened by the State Judo Association, in coordination with the Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of Baja California (INDEBC).

For the state competition, the participation of around 100 judokas is contemplated, of which 50 percent will advance to the National Qualifier, according to what was reported by Josan Fajer, president of the State Judo Association.

“From this state level, the athletes who obtain first and second place by category will advance to the National ‘Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi’. From there, the group that will represent the state in the National Olympiad will be defined. Everyone comes to fight for their place, so we expect a very intense day,” said Fajer.

The Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi National Qualifier, convened by the Mexican Judo Federation, will take place from February 19 to 22 in Apizaco, Tlaxcala, and will feature the participation of judokas from the Sub 15, Sub 18, Sub 21 and Primera Fuerza categories. Meanwhile, the minor categories will compete in their qualifying round for the National Olympics in mid-March, in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

“The athletes arrive in good shape. This is a year of transition, since several of those who participated in previous processes changed categories and divisions; however, we are confident that, based on experience and preparation, good results will be obtained,” added the state leader.

Judo is considered a priority discipline for the INDEBC, after in the last National Olympics the Baja California team contributed to the medal table with six gold, six silver and seven bronze medals, a performance that earned the discipline the national runner-up status by state.
