Basketball star Victor Wembanyama was deeply shocked after the fatal shooting of civilians by US immigration authorities ICE in Minneapolis.
“Every day I wake up and see the news and I’m horrified,” said the French all-star of the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA team’s PR department asked him to make cautious statements, “but I’m not going to sit here and give a politically correct answer.”
NBA finds clear words
He found it “crazy that some people portray it or make it sound as if it was acceptable. As if the murder of civilians was acceptable,” emphasized Wembanyama, visibly moved.
In view of the news situation, he asks himself “deep questions” about his life. However, the 22-year-old did not want to go into detail out of caution: “I’m a foreigner in this country. I live here. But I’m worried. It’s terrible.”
On January 7th, unarmed Renée Good was shot in her car in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 17 days later, Alex Pretti was fatally shot by masked emergency services. Both were US citizens and were 37 years old. Government members justified the killing as self-defense.
