Rome Football Match: Assault Trial

An 8-a-side football match that turned into a bullfight, with a player who was brutally attacked and suffered wounds that healed in thirty days. Three amateur footballers – aged 28, 35 and 27 respectively – ended up on trial. The events occurred in March in the Quadraro area.

The aggression

According to what was reconstructed by the police, the match of the amateur “8-a-side football” league was valid for the round of 16 of the A2 Italian Cup. The “Atletico Monti Tiburtini Siempre Amigos” and the “Galacticos” face each other. The match was tense, fouls followed one another and the referee, in some way, managed the situation which, however, worsened in the second half, when yet another foul triggered a crowd. A player, who had elbowed an opponent, was kicked by the 35-year-old, who also attempted to throw punches despite the attempt to stop him. Chaos all around: pandemonium had now broken out.

The victim then sought refuge by heading towards his bench but was caught and attacked again. A beating in which, according to the prosecution, the three took part and which resulted in a fractured jaw and head trauma. On October 2nd the defendants will appear in the courtroom before the single judge and the public prosecutor Gianluca Mazzei.
