The Minnesota Timberwolves were on the field 24 hours later than expected, but the emotions were high.
The team’s head coach Chris Finch spoke on behalf of the team to comment on Saturday’s events in protests surrounding immigration issues that resulted in a shooting and the death of Alex Pretty by a federal agent.
He was emotional when he spoke to the media before Sunday’s matchup against the Golden State Warriors.
“I am more than a resident, this is my home. I love living here. I love being part of this community. I have been well received since day 1. The people have been amazing. It’s sad to see what’s happening. On a human level, from someone who is proud to be here, I know that many of our players feel the same way. They all love this place and it’s hard to see what’s happening,” Finch commented.
It was therefore in an atmosphere charged with emotion that the Timberwolves took the field for their match. A moment of silence was observed before the national anthem in memory of the victim. They did the same in tribute to Renee Good before the meeting on January 8, a day after she was shot and killed by a federal agent.
On the field, the Warriors had the best by a score of 111 to 85 over the Timberwolves.
Steph Curry was the most productive on his team with 26 points, but he made only three of his 10 shots from downtown. For Minnesota, Anthy Edward shone with 32 points and 11 rebounds.
The match was scheduled to take place on Saturday, but it was postponed for 24 hours to promote “security” due to tension and acts of violence in the region.
