Lucas Paquetá will become a new Flamengo player later this week. The operation will be closed in the next few hours and will mark a milestone, as it will be the most important carried out by a South American club.
According to the Brazilian portal Globo EsporteFlamengo and West Ham United agreed on the amount of the transaction: 41,250,000 euros, without goal bonuses. The English wanted a fixed number, that did not depend on variables, and they negotiated for the two parties to agree.
Today the only thing left for the transfer to be completed is to agree on the number of installments. The Rio club aims to pay in three years, while the English aim to collect in 18 months. According to local media, they will reach an intermediate agreement and the transfer will be made.
Paquetá, 28, began his career at Flamengo, debuted in 2016, established himself in 2017 and was transferred to Milan in January 2019 in exchange for 35 million euros. He spent a year and a half without being able to shine in Italy and in October 2020 he was sold to Olympique Lyon for 20 million euros, in addition to a percentage of the next transfer.
In August 2022, Paquetá was sold for triple that amount to West Ham United, who today, three and a half years later, will sell him in what will be the most important purchase in the history of South American football.
The record signing of a South American team until today is that of Gerson, who a couple of weeks ago arrived at Cruzeiro in exchange for 27 million euros. Completing the podium is Vitor Roque, for whom Palmeiras paid Barcelona 25,500,000 European currency.
