It was a mid-table Western Conference poster which should have taken place this Saturday evening in Minneapolis. Rudy Gobert’s Timberwolves were set to challenge Stephen Curry’s franchise, the Golden State Warriors. But the basketball meeting did not take place this Saturday and was postponed to this Sunday evening by the NBA. A “security” decision that follows protests in the city after the death of a man, killed by ICE.
Two weeks after the death of a 37-year-old woman, Renee Good, the American immigration police (ICE) killed again in Minneapolis. Alex Pretti, a nurse, also 37 years old, was shot dead by federal agents because he was demonstrating. There are plenty of rallies in Minnesota’s main city against ICE and the latter doesn’t like it.
Safety: priority
It is in this climate of protest that the NBA preferred to postpone the Timberwolves – Warriors poster. “The decision was made to prioritize the safety of the population of Minneapolis,” said the North American league’s press release. The meeting will nevertheless take place at the Target Center. The game should launch around 5:30 p.m. local time (11:30 p.m. French time) this Sunday evening.
With a record of 27 wins for 18 losses, the Timberwolves are better ranked than the Warriors (25-21) but have just had four consecutive defeats. Anthony Edwards and his partners would be well inspired to find victory against a direct competitor in the playoffs.
