Vasco Sousa’s ordeal seems to have finally taken a decisive step towards its end. The FC Porto midfielder, on loan to Moreirense, was discharged from the hospital where he had been since December 14, the date he suffered a fibula fracture in his right leg during the game against Benfica – 39 days have passed. After the surgery, an infection appeared the following day, which required him to remain hospitalized to avoid complications.
The player has already begun treatment at the Jorge Costa Training and Sports Development Center in Olival, under the responsibility of the club that holds his contract. His girlfriend, Joana Guise, shared a video and an emotional message about the progress of his recovery, documenting particularly difficult moments; Vasco had to spend Christmas and New Year’s in the hospital and, according to Joana, made «21 trips to the operating room» during this period.
«When we are young, they tell us stories about superheroes, but no one talks about those who don’t wear capes. Silent heroes, who continue even when the future hangs by a thread,» she began writing.
«This hero is not like the others. He doesn’t give up when everything is taken from him. He rebuilds himself as many times as necessary. (…) Maybe this isn’t the fairy tale he was promised, but it’s a real story – made of falls, new beginnings, and a strength that isn’t learned in books. (…) And teaching everyone that true heroes don’t live in the pages of books, they live beside us. And I have the privilege of loving one of them,» Joana concludes.
Vasco Sousa, 22, had already overcome another serious injury last season after establishing himself in the main team with Victor Bruno. At Moreirense, he has nine games and one goal.
