Former vice-president of football at Flamengo, Marcos Braz spent his career clean
Currently at Remo, Marcos Braz won practically everything during the period he worked at Flamengo. However, the manager also made mistakes. The biggest of them, in his own view, was firing Rogério Ceni in 2021, after the commander won the Brasileirão, Carioca and Supercopa titles.
— I was wrong to remove Rogério Ceni at that moment. I really regret resigning and I wasn’t consistent. In football, you can be everything, you can make mistakes, you can be right, but you can’t be incoherent. Why? I held him back before he became champion, the fans asked me to fire him and fire him — said Braz.
— I held on to Rogério, who later resigned twice and convinced him to continue to become champion at Morumbi. I told him that. I’m sure, Flamengo is champion of Brazil, the Super Cup, three-time state champion, and further on due to internal issues, pressure from A, B, I fired —, added the director, in an interview with GE.
WHEN WAS ROGÉRIO CENI FIRED?
Flamengo experienced a crisis in the first half of 2021, when the squad suffered from injuries and players called up. Thus, the team dropped in production and lost games in a row. The ‘final straw’ was on July 7th, when Rubro-Negro lost 2-1, in Brasileirão, at Mineirão. Three days later, the former goalkeeper fell.
Subsequently, Flamengo suffered from ‘musical chairs’ in the coaching position. Still in 2021, Renato Gaúcho took over. Subsequently, in 2022, Paulo Sousa and Dorival Júnior led the team. In 2023, Vítor Pereira and Tite passed through the club. The year before last, the gaucho and Filipe Luís led the team. And the former full-back continues to this day.
