FC St. Pauli – Hamburger SV 0:0 (0:0)

Hamburger SV missed the revenge it longed for in the city derby against FC St. Pauli. Coach Merlin Polzin’s team couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw with their arch-rivals. In the first half of the season he had HSV still lost 0-2. The team also has to wait for its first away win this season.

The draw doesn’t help either team in the relegation battle. The newly promoted HSV is still five points ahead of the neighborhood club. But both teams are stuck in the bottom of the table.

Both teams also showed why they are only fighting relegation this season: If there were any shots on goal at all, they were usually harmless – or the players were offside. Before the break, the only upset was a foul by St. Pauli’s Adam Dźwigała on Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit (7th). Dźwigała was shown a yellow card for this.

After the weak first half, things got more intense in the second half of the game. The FC had St. Pauli the better chances. But the guests had the first dangerous situation of the game. After a corner, HSV defense chief Luka Vušković (54th) failed with a header past St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj. HSV coach Merlin Polzin reacted to the increasingly strong hosts by completely changing the attack and using Robert Glatzel, Rayan Philippe and Jean-Luc Dompé. But that didn’t result in a goal either.
