Deniz Gul once again demonstrated that he exceeds the status of a simple substitute in the FC Porto squad. The 21-year-old Turkish international striker stood out in the 1-1 draw against Viktoria Plzen by scoring, in the 90th minute, the goal that secured a valuable point for the Dragons in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League. It was the sixth goal since his arrival at Dragão – the fourth this season – and they all share a characteristic: they came with Gul coming in from the bench, an argument that places him as the possible secret weapon of Francesco Farioli.
