After the surprising elimination from… Hamburger SV The former national soccer player Stefan Kuntz once again publicly defended himself against allegations that led to the separation of the then sports director from the Bundesliga newcomer. In the South German newspaper the 63-year-old described the crucial conversation with two supervisory board members: “Then I thought: Ah, now they’re coming to finally extend my contract.” The report goes on to say that he does not recognize any serious misconduct in his actions at HSV.
The club had the separation from Kuntz announced on January 2nd. Initially, a message mentioned “family reasons”. On January 13th – one day after the Bild on Sunday had reported on alleged allegations against Kuntz – but the supervisory board announced that his departure was related to indications of possible misconduct. Previously it had Bild-Newspaper reported allegations by HSV employees against the 63-year-old. According to the report, the allegations of sexual harassment were the actual reason for the surprise termination of his contract.
In its statement, the HSV supervisory board said that after careful examination, the committee came to the conclusion that the allegations were credible. It therefore decided to quickly separate from Kuntz. The protection of those affected was the top priority. Kuntz agreed to the termination of the employment relationship on December 31, 2025 and was represented by a lawyer, the committee said.
Kuntz’s lawyer Christian Schertz said South German newspaper Now, however, his client still doesn’t know “what exactly is being accused of him by which person and in which situation.” The statement from the HSV supervisory board states: “Mr. Kuntz explicitly did not take advantage of the opportunity to comment to the supervisory board despite multiple offers.”
