Karafiat leaves FCN
As 1. FC Nürnberg announced, they are parting ways with Ondrej Karafiat. Since the switch from a five-man to a four-man chain, the 31-year-old, who was a regular in the previous season, has hardly made any appearances. “The prospects of more playing time in the second half of the season were now rather slim. Therefore, the step back home is the best solution for all parties,” said Joti Chatzialexiou, explaining the contract termination. The central defender, who played 37 times for the Franconians, is said to be about to return to the Czech first division.
Reunion with ex-FCN professional
There should be a reunion with a former Nuremberg teammate. As the Czech media iSport.cz reports, Karafiat’s next club will be Mladá Boleslav, from where he came to Germany on a free transfer in 2024. An ex-FCN professional has been active there since the start of the season, whose loan was canceled last winter: Michal Ševčík, who only made four appearances for the club professionals in the first half of the previous season. The two Czechs were on the field for the nine-time German champions for at least 25 minutes together.
Relegation battle in the Czech Republic
This number is likely to increase significantly in the case of Mladá Boleslav. After all, Ševčík, who is on loan from Sparta Prague, is a regular player for the thirteenth-place team. In 20 competitive appearances, the 22-year-old midfielder has seven goals and two assists. His former and now new teammate Karafiat will probably help to stabilize the defense. With 41 goals conceded after 19 match days, the club conceded by far the most in the league and is therefore in a relegation battle.
An official announcement of the transfer to Mladá Boleslav is still pending. What is certain, however, is that Karafiat should “sign a new contract with a first division club soon,” as it says in the official announcement about the termination of the contract with 1. FC Nürnberg.
