The Barracudas from Belgrade go home dejected after one of the heaviest defeats in history and sixth place far below expectations.
Cold shower from Belgrade. The Croatian water polo team experienced one of the heaviest defeats in the history of our water polo. The Barracudas finished the European Championship in sixth place, with three victories against inferior opponents and all three defeats in the so-called serious matches.
In the match for fifth place, the Spaniards literally sank Croatia and celebrated with a convincing 17:9. A defeat that hurts, not only because of the result, but also because of the overall impression of the tournament. Croatian water polo players return home dejected and disappointed – the sixth place is far below their wishes and expectations, and the fact that they lost all three matches against equal rivals: Greece, Italy and Spain, with a total goal difference of -12, is particularly worrying.
The victories were achieved only against weaker national teams – Georgia, Romania and Turkey – which further strengthens the bitter taste of the end of the championship.
