Ranked 21st in the world, Nguyen Thuy Linh was unseeded in the women’s singles event of the 2026 Indonesia Masters – a Badminton World Federation (BWF) BWF World Tour Super 500 level tournament.
For her first match this afternoon, January 21, the Vietnamese tennis number one will face Lin Hsiang Ti, currently 20th in the world. The two players have already met three times: Thuy Linh won twice and suffered one defeat.
During this rematch, the two players were tied at the start of the first set. But at 7-7, Thuy Linh strung together four consecutive points to lead 11-7, before increasing their lead to 17-11 and winning 21-14.
The second set played out similarly. At 9-9, Thuy Linh scored 4 consecutive points to take the lead 13-19. Although Lin Hsiang Ti then scored 2 points to narrow the gap to 11-13, Thuy Linh brilliantly won the set with a series of 8 points, ultimately winning 21-11.
After defeating Lin Hsiang Ti 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) in 35 minutes, Thuy Linh advanced to the second round of the Indonesia Masters 2026.
The 1997-born player’s opponent in this round is another representative from Chinese Taipei – Chiu Pin Chian (world No. 15), who won 2-1 against Beiwen Zhang (USA, world No. 29) in the first round.
The Indonesia Masters is the second consecutive tournament that Thuy Linh is participating in January. Previously, she reached the second round of the women’s singles at the 2026 India Open Badminton (counting towards the BWF World Tour Super 750).
