SLEMAN, KOMPAS.TV – PSS Sleman continues to finalize preparations ahead of the tough away match against Persipura Jayapura in the 17th week of the Pegadaian Championship, Saturday (24/1/2026). This match is predicted to be one of the determinants of the top competition map this season.
PSS Sleman Technical Director, Pieter Huistra, did not deny that the meeting was against the team Black Pearl is the real test for the Super Elja squad. With PSS in second place and Persipura trailing in third, the result of this match will be very crucial.
”Now we have two big matches in front of us, facing Persipura and Barito (Putera). This is the biggest match in this round, so we have to be really ready,” said Huistra after leading a training session in Pakem, Sleman, Tuesday (20/1/2026).
Playing at Persipura’s home ground always presents its own challenges, both from a technical perspective and the stadium atmosphere.

Huistra emphasized that high pressure in the match will be needed to test his team’s suitability as a champion candidate.
”There is always pressure when you play against top teams. That pressure should make players better. If pressure can’t help you, then you can’t play on a winning team,” said the Dutch coach.
Huistra also reminded his players to maintain focus and not be provoked by provocation on the field.
“I always teach players to concentrate on their task. If they focus on their task, players don’t have time to react to other distractions,” he said.

In terms of player availability, PSS is still monitoring the condition of midfielder Frederic Injai. The player had experienced fitness problems, even though he was seen taking part in a training session on Tuesday.
”The condition touch and go (uncertain). We don’t know 100 percent yet, but Frederic Injai has been training all day. “We will see his reaction tomorrow before making a final decision on whether he will be involved in Saturday’s match,” said Huistra.
Entering the 17th round, competition in Group B remains tight with the top three teams still within one win.
Barito Putera leads the standings with 36 points from 16 matches, narrowly ahead of PSS Sleman in second place with 34 points, while Persipura Jayapura is in third place with 33 points.
