Hyoran got used to winning titles in his career. From winning the first state title with Chapecoense passing for the Brazilian title in Palm trees even the triple crown with Atlético. 2026, however, was a different year: the midfielder ended up relegated to Series B with Sport. In exclusive interview to oGolHyoran spoke about his successful career and also about the year of disappointments in Recife.
From his first national title, the player does not forget the lessons he learned from Luiz Felipe Scolari, a five-time world champion coach. “When I retire, I will have a painting of a photo I took with Felipão when we were champions”, he began by saying.
“Being a Brazilian champion is not something simple. It was (Palmeiras’) tenth Brazilian title at the time, it is something that is in history. It was extraordinary to be part of that squad, a group focused on objectives. Being able to participate in this is every athlete’s dream. We see a lot of players who go through many clubs, play in big places, but achieving titles that really mark your career is something difficult. So I’m a privileged guy”, he confessed.
Without the draft he wanted at Palmeiras, Hyoran went to Atlético and, after hitting the post in the Brasileirão with Jorge Sampaoliended up triple crown champion with Cuca.
“I remember a game we were playing at the NeoQuímica Arena, we were losing, then Hulk scored two goals, we turned the game around and I said: ‘forget it, this year we’re going to get the title’. Then against Bahia there, we lost, and we looked for a comeback. We knew it. We felt the group was closed, that things were turning around. We carried the weight of Atlético’s many years without winning a Brazilian title. At the same time we had this conviction that we were going to win it, sometimes We were afraid of the pressure, the fans wanted a lot. But the games in the crowded Mineirão were extraordinary. We knew that it would be difficult for anyone to take the title away from us, 50 years later, for Atlético to win the Brazilian Championship… It was something that really impacted us”, he recalled.
Among his teammates, Hyoran did not fail to highlight the importance of Hulk in that cast. “He has achieved everything he has achieved, but he has no vanity whatsoever. This has all made us more united. If a guy at this level is doing this, we have to do it. These are things that bring us together in a group”, he highlighted.
Hyoran played for Bragantino on loan, but the club did not exercise the purchase option as the midfielder wished. In 2024, he fulfilled his dream of playing for his father’s and childhood team, Internacional. As a child, the midfielder played at an Inter school in a city near Chapecó, where he is from.
“It was another dream come true as a professional. Many things off the field got in the way.” The player highlighted that the flood in Porto Alegre that year separated the team from the fans and made the group play a lot of time away from home.
A year to forget
Loaned in 2025, he welcomed the opportunity to play for Sport. He saw the team invest heavily in the market and planned big things for the season. In the end, it ended in disappointment.
“We dreamed of great things last year, Sport presented a very good project. The person who called me was Pepa himself, he was counting on me. We embraced the idea, we went there, because a very good squad was put together. Sport planned and had very big goals. But on the field, things didn’t go the way we imagined”, he began by saying.
Hyoran confessed that he tried to analyze the 2025 campaign from different perspectives, but did not reach a conclusion about what happened for Leão to finish the Brasileirão with just two wins in 38 games.
“Within the club, we couldn’t understand, identify the reason why it was such a bad year. We played good games, competed, fought, but in the end we didn’t win. If I tell you that there was something that was remarkable, it wasn’t. The club provided structure, it had a qualified squad, staff Qualified, salary on time, nothing was missing. But it was a year where we can’t explain why we didn’t achieve any results. It’s been a year in which, to this day, I’m trying to understand where we went wrong. If you ask me what the error was, I can’t explain it. It was a year that hurt a lot and had a negative impact on my career. It will go down in history, one of the worst campaigns in the Brazilian Championship. It’s sad,” he assured.
Rubro-Negro bet on Europeans like Sérgio Oliveira, Gonçalo Paciência and João Silva. Hyoran confessed that they were surprised by the number of games without time to train and the long trips. “They said: ‘We can’t do the things we train for, because we don’t train’. Because in Europe we are very trained on what to do in the game. Here it’s video, conversation.”
The midfielder agreed with one thing: there was a lack of planning when assembling the squad. “They expanded the quality group, now I don’t know if it was in the way they imagined playing. Maybe it was a team that had to have more possession of the ball, but in the championship we had to score more than play. And then, characteristically, it wasn’t a team with so much strength in marking”, he analyzed.
Hyoran assured that he did not have any problems with vanity or connection in the locker room, and confessed that psychology also got in the way. “Our mental strength did not have the strength to resist and continue doing what we had planned”, he summarized.
