Peñarol, with a very poor performance, tied 1-1 with Colo Colo in their second international friendly and lost 4-3 on penalties, in a duel where the most positive thing was once again Matías Arezo.
The match began with an even process between two teams that sought to establish lines and thus try to deploy collectively on the attack.
Vidal was the owner of the team on the visit and football passed yes or yes through his feet, in the carboneros meanwhile, the left winger, with a moving Togni, was the place chosen to advance and serve balls to the area.
A shot by Romero that hit Gularte to turn off the alarms and a mid-range attempt by Togni himself that was blocked by De Paul moved the first quarter of an hour of action.
The Chileans were much more associative when it came to having the ball, against a local team that was direct, searching with speed through the ends and then trying to connect with Arezo. Thus came a center from Fernández that connected the nine but without being able to give it direction.
An injury to Maximiliano Olivera with subsequent knee pain left him out of the game and in his place the youth player Kevin Rodríguez entered, setting off the red alarm bells.
Fernández, who appeared in a dropper, had a shot that demanded the goalkeeper, but his contribution failed to give him the touch of quality that the team needed on the field.
And the Cacique little by little began to feel more comfortable and reached the opening at 41′. A filtered pass from Leandro Hernández on the right left Maximiliano Romero alone and unmarked, who reached the baseline and put it back so that Víctor Méndez finished first cross and scored the 1-0.

An unexpected blow for the Carboneros who could do little until the halftime break and could even end up with one less after a very hard foul by Lucas Ferreira who could see the red.
Lack of ideas and play
The second half began with several changes in the visit, including the departure of Vidal, as well as a couple in those led by Aguirre, placing Matías González and Stiven Muhlethaler for Escobar and Umpiérrez.
The visit had a first few moments of predominance attacking mainly from the left, until the charcoal burners, influenced by the demand of their people who sang “a little more egg” had another presence.
But the truth is that the wing play was not working and Fernández still did not have clarity, nor the necessary speed to unbalance, so the offensive chances were diluted near the area.
Given this, La Fiera sent Facundo Batista for an exhausted Togni, placing a double nine to try another recipe to go for the tie, something that did not work either.
Trindade, lacking in gestation, and Remedi demanding from a defensive point of view, did not give wings from the midfield to a team that repeated itself in fruitless individual attempts.
Peñarol was an effort without ideas, runs without much result and at times a desire to reach the goal based on an inspiration absent from a very flat eleven in play.
Already entering the final ten minutes, the clear chance came for Ortíz’s team with a shot that Aquino blocked and Aguerre rebounded, which Marchant could not take advantage of to double the distance.
And not even with a still ball could he find a path that would make his fans excited about equality, going through the final moments with the helplessness of not knowing what to do.
Near the end he had a clear shot with a rebound from Fernández and the Chilean substitute goalkeeper, Gabriel Maureira, managed to take it into the corner.
But at 90’+2′, a genius from Matías Arezo, the great figure of the Carboneros, appeared to put a very long pass behind the defenders for Facundo Batista’s pick, the striker won, settled in, finished cross and made the tie 1-1, unthinkable, undeserved.
TOTAL GREAT GOAL FROM PEÑAROL FOR THE AGONICAL DRAW!! TOP assist from Arezo and great definition from Batista for the 1-1 vs. Colo Colo.

A cross between Arezo and Villagra, after a strong foul by the Chilean on Stiven Muhlethaler, ended in an exchange of red cards and both of them were sent off, but with the match going to penalties to define a winner.
They didn’t want to win
The tie in regular time led to penalties to define a winner and the performers of both seemed not to be up to the task, missing eleven penalties out of the 18 executed.
Although Washington Aguerre blocked four for the Carboneros, Leonardo Fernández, Jesús Trindade, Stiven Muhlethaler, Facundo Batista, Matías González and Lucas Ferreira missed their shots, against an opponent who managed to score four times to win 4-3. Another aspect in the must for the mirasols.
NOT ONE, NOT TWO, NOT THREE… FOUR! Washington Aguerre saved FOUR penalties in the shootout vs. Colo Colo but it was not enough for Peñarol to win.
