According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Technical Committee of Referees, in its Tiempo de review review, ruled the late penalty that made it 2-0 was correctly awarded, and that VAR was right not to step in.
The match was played on Friday at Estadio SkyFi Castalia, with CD Castellón beating CD Leganés 2-0 to move into the LaLiga EA Sports promotion places. The referee was Dámaso Arcediano Monescillo.
The committee’s account said a home forward entered the box as a visiting defender tried to shield the ball towards the byline. In the challenge for the ball the Castellón attacker went down, claiming contact to the face.
CTA noted the defender, Amadou Diawara, displaced his opponent with his left arm and also made contact with his right hand. It said that level of contact justified the on-field penalty call.
Earlier, an Álex Calatrava effort for 2-0 had been ruled out for a prior offside by Ousmane Camara, a decision that did not appear fully established. Isra Suero converted from 11 metres to secure a sixth straight home win.
