The images are impressive. An immense, feverish human tide accompanied for hours on Tuesday the double-decker bus parade of Senegal players in the streets of Dakar. A beautiful communion between a people and the Lions of Teranga, crowned African champions last Sunday after an electric and chaotic final against Morocco.
After this crowd, the new kings of the continent were received and honored in the evening under the gold of the presidential palace by the Head of State Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his government.
The Senegalese president took the opportunity to pay a “deep tribute” to Sadio Mané. “A player who through his talent but above all through his sense of responsibility has marked this final and this competition,” declared the manager. Sadio Mané is today much more than a player, he has entered through his work, his consistency and his exemplarity into the closed circle of legends of national and African football. »
A record amount
Above all, Bassirou Diomaye Faye had reserved one last surprise, one last gift, for the players since he announced to them that they would each receive an exceptional reward of 75 million CFA francs (approximately 114,330 euros), as well as land of 1,500 square meters in a seaside resort located in the Petite Côte region.
The staff and members of the Senegalese Football Federation are not forgotten and will receive 50 million CFA francs (approximately 76,000 euros) and 1,000 square meter pitches, still in this very popular part of the country. The other members of the delegation will receive 20 million CFA francs (around 30,500 euros) and 500 square meters.
Gifts which are added to the bonus already paid by the African Football Federation after the title. The African champion indeed pocketed a nice jackpot of 10 million dollars, or 8.6 million euros.
A record sum which corresponds to double that which the Senegalese had won after their previous title in 2021. Sadio Mané’s partners had, at the time, had to “settle” for a check for 5 million dollars, or around 4.3 million euros.
