Naomi Osaka surprised the fans with her pre-match outfit.
However, her grandiose arrival on the court of the Rod Laver Arena attracted more than her sporting performance. The former world number one, who has won the title twice in Melbourne and is currently ranked 17th in the WTA rankings, came out wearing a white umbrella, a wide-brimmed hat and a long veil, while wearing a turquoise sleeveless dress and pleated white trousers.

She completed the pre-match formalities in a stylish outfit, but then she played a more than two-hour duel in sports clothing.
“Nike allowed me to design this jellyfish-inspired outfit. I’m very grateful to be able to do what I love. It’s really beautiful,” Osaka said of her outfit.
The 28-year-old from Osaka is known for her fashion presentation on the court. She worked really hard to advance further on Tuesday, especially because of her greater experience compared to her 23-year-old rival.
“Honestly, this is one of my favorite tournaments and I’m very happy to start the year here. I think I served well, but I was up against an amazing player, I’ve never played with her before. I hope I won’t see her on the other side of the net again,” Osaka noted with a smile after her 70th singles triumph at Grand Slam tournaments. In the past, only Ai Sugiyama managed to do this among Japanese women.
