Janice Earn became the second tennis player from Indonesia to win the tournament Hobart International.
Janice took the podium with her partner Katarzyna Piter who comes from Poland. Janice/Piter won 6-2 and 6-2 over Magali Kempen/Anna Siskova in the final match at the Hobart International Tennis Center, Australia, Saturday (17/1).
Janice’s brilliant steps to bring home the title from Hobart International followed in the footsteps of Indonesian tennis legend, Yayuk Basuki.

Yayuk, who had a big name on the international tennis scene in the 1980s and 1990s, won the women’s doubles title at Hobart International in 1996.
Just like Janice, Yayuk won the title when he first appeared in the tournament formerly known as the Tasmanian International. Yayuk and Janice’s debut in the Hobart International doubles sector resulted in the title of champion.
Another similarity between Janice and Yayuk is that they are paired with foreign tennis players. Thirty years ago, Yayuk had a duet with Kyoko Nagatsuka from Japan.
Yayuk and Nagatsuka were the second seeds in the tournament which at that time was still called the Tasmanian International. In the final match, Yayuk/Nagatsuka successfully became champions after defeating Kerry-Anne Guse/Park Sung Hae 7-6 (9-7) and 6-3.
Yayuk is the top tennis player that Indonesia has ever had. Apart from being ranked 20th in the world, Yayuk also collected 6 WTA women’s singles titles and 9 WTA women’s doubles titles.
