Rasmus Andersson was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights from the Calgary Flames on Sunday night Swedish time.
In exchange, the Flames receive guard Zach Whitecloud, guard talent Abram Wiebe, a conditional first-round pick in 2027 and a conditional second-round pick in the 2028 draft.
Andersson has this season scored 30 points (10+20) in 48 games – third most in the Flames. His ice time of 24:14 was the most on the team. The Swedish Olympic defender is in the final year of the six-year contract he signed with the Flames on January 8, 2020, which was worth $4.55 million per season. He can become an unrestricted free agent after this season. Part of the deal is that Calgary keeps 50 percent of Andersson’s salary.
During his NHL career, Andersson has scored 261 (57+204) in 584 regular season games and 14 points (7+7) in 27 Stanley Cup playoff games. He was drafted in the second round (53rd overall) in 2015.
Whitecloud has scored seven points (2+5) this season. The 29-year-old is in the fourth year of his six-year contract that he signed on October 28, 2021. Wiebe, 22, was selected by Vegas in the seventh round (209th player overall) in 2022. This season he has scored 14 points (3+11) in 24 games for the University of North Dakota in the NCAA.
