The Senegal team for the second time in history and for the first time since 2021 won the African Cup of Nations, which was held in Morocco.
In the final, held in Rabat, the Senegalese beat the hosts of the tournament with a score of 1:0.
This was the third final for the Senegalese since 2019, and the first for the Moroccans since 2004.
In the semi-finals, the Senegalese defeated the Egyptians, who hold the record for the number of trophies (seven, the last in 2010) with a score of 1:0. In the semifinals, the Moroccans beat the Nigerians on penalties (0:0, 4:2), who took bronze in the match with Egypt on January 17 (0:0 in regular time, 4:2 in the penalty shootout).
The Moroccan national team has won the tournament only once (in 1976). Before this match, the Moroccans had not lost at home since November 2009, and their unbeaten streak in all tournaments was 26 matches (since the 2023 African Cup of Nations).
