Corinthians have completed preparations to face São Paulo in the third round of the Paulistão, with new signing Matheus Pereira registered and in contention to re-debut on Sunday.
“Honestly, it is an indescribable feeling, after 10 years to come back home, to the team I support. My whole family are Corinthians supporters, so it is a feeling I cannot put into words,” he said. The interview was with Corinthians TV.
On his return, the 27-year-old will wear shirt 23, recently vacated by right-back Fagner, who terminated his contract before signing permanently for Cruzeiro at the start of 2026.
“I am very happy to be back. I hope it is a successful year for us, with many trophies, and, God willing, to stay for many years here,” he added.
An academy graduate at Parque São Jorge, Pereira later spent time with Juventus, Empoli, Bordeaux II, Paraná, Juventus B, Dijon, Barcelona B and Eibar, then joined Fortaleza in June last year. He has arrived on loan from Fortaleza until the end of 2026, with an option to buy.
Corinthians are seeking a response after the 3-0 defeat to Red Bull Bragantino on Thursday. They sit eighth with three points, with kick-off at 16:00 at Neo Química Arena on Sunday.
