A well-known face for PSG. UEFA has appointed Englishman Anthony Taylor as the main referee for the match between Sporting Portugal and PSG, scheduled in Lisbon this Tuesday, January 20 at 9 p.m. for the 7th day of the league phase of the Champions League.
The 47-year-old Englishman is one of the most experienced referees with more than 800 matches to his name, half of which were in the Premier League. Anthony Taylor has managed 41 Champions League matches since the start of his career, including eight for the French capital club (five wins, two defeats, one draw).
Two red cards in PSG’s last match
In C1, the last two PSG matches that he refereed do not remain good memories for Luis Enrique’s men since Paris lost both times: in the quarter-final first leg against FC Barcelona (3-2) on April 10, 2024 at home, then in the semi-final first leg against Borussia Dortmund (1-0) in Germany on May 1, 2024, a week before the elimination of the club at the gates of the final.
But the last time Anthony Taylor crossed paths with the European champions was in the quarter-final of the Club World Cup last summer against Bayern Munich (2-0).
The referee then drew two direct red cards at the end of the match, the first for Willian Pacho and the second against Lucas Hernandez in stoppage time. This double exclusion without consequences for PSG finally reached the final.
