Djokovic: Aiming for 25 Grand Slams Despite Tough Competition

The dominance of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Serb – but he still wants to take advantage of his chance.

Even at the age of 38, Novak Djokovic still believes in his chance of winning his historic 25th Grand Slam title. “If I’m healthy and all the pieces of the puzzle fit together, I can beat anyone,” said Djokovic, who starts the Australian Open on Monday. The Serb has already triumphed ten times in Melbourne.

Djokovic is aware that in times of dominance by Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner he only has outside chances.

Djokovic: Wants to “play against the best”

“Sinner and Alcaraz are playing on a different level right now, but that doesn’t mean that no one else has a chance,” he explained, adding: “I’m trying to concentrate on what I’ve achieved, not on what’s still possible. 24 isn’t a bad number either.”

Djokovic, who is now concentrating almost exclusively on the Grand Slams, did not complete a preparation tournament for the Australian Open this year.

“I’m doing my best, trying to treat every match like a final and building up energy for the later rounds. I want to have the chance to play against the best,” he said. Last year, Djokovic had to give up in the semifinals against Alexander Zverev.
