The Brno political movement For Lužánky was registered with the Ministry of the Interior in December. SK Židenice, the predecessor of today’s FC Zbrojovka Brno, officially announced its founding on Wednesday, the 113th anniversary of the founding of SK Židenice. Along with this, it also launched its website. The movement plans to participate in this year’s municipal elections. The main topic is the development around the Za Lužánkami area. The movement arose from a civic initiative of people who are interested in the functioning of the city or in public projects. The impetus was the development around the area behind Lužánky. “Lužánky are the main, not the only, topic for us. They are a symbol of the fact that Brno needs to make better use of the opportunities offered to it. If the city has a partner ready to bear risks and costs, it would be a shame to block such potential. We want Brno to learn to cooperate with private investors more efficiently, openly and with a clear vision.” Winkler said.

According to the city management, it is the private investor who should build and operate a new sports field in the area behind Lužánky, where the dilapidated football stadium now stands. To make this possible, the city will sell its land in the locality through a concession process. Three applicants applied for it. It is now necessary to evaluate whether they meet the qualification requirements. They should then submit their final offers by July at the latest.
Football Zbrojovka fans have previously criticized the dates and the city’s procedure. “Any large construction company that meets the qualifying conditions can apply for the concession procedure, i.e. even one whose real goal is not to build the stadium, but to prevent its construction,” they wrote on their website in November. They said at the time that they wanted the stadium to “finally start construction”. At the same time, the variant beyond Lužánké was not considered until some time ago, development there is hindered in particular by a dispute over the ownership of land with businessman Libor Procházka. It returned to the game last summer due to the interest of the new owner of Zbrojovka to finance the project.
