VLAARDINGEN – On January 14, the outdoor play container was festively presented by Arnoud Proos at Jan Ligthart primary school. A great step, because Vlaardingen in Beweging (ViB) works every week in (school) yards throughout the city to get children to play outside more. This is desperately needed: recent research by Jantje Beton shows that almost one in three children plays indoors more often than outdoors, while children often prefer to play outside with other children.
Fortunately, children themselves also know how nice playing outside is: no less than 70 percent feel happy and cheerful after playing outside. “It is not only fun and healthy, but also very important for children to play outside (more), and that is why we do it!”, says Eveline Pleijte, JOGG Director and Exercise & Health project leader of Vlaardingen in Beweging enthusiastically. To make playing outside more fun and easier, JOGG and Vlaardingen in Beweging have jointly created a fun outdoor play package, especially for primary schools. The outdoor play container contains badminton rackets, balls, hoops, skipping ropes and cones: everything you need to play fun games such as Cat and Mouse, Kings and Gate Ball. This way, children can immediately get some inspiration to play outside after school. The games and accompanying explanations can be found at www.stichtingvib.nl/buitenspeelinspiratie.
Nineteen schools have already requested an outdoor play container. Is your school also interested in more fun on the playground? Send an email to eveline@stichtingvib.nl and request the outdoor play container!
