Which game should you definitely not miss?
Leipzig against Bayern. Things won’t be as bad for Leipzig as they were in the first leg, which they lost 6-0. Or!? You can’t be completely sure. However, two other full-backs, Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić, are out – but Harry Kane now plays for large parts of the game. Bayern have a record first half of the season: 47 points, which they only managed once under Pep Guardiola. Maybe we should introduce a Bundesliga table without them. Leipzig is second in that. So the championship is still there.
Which game can you safely miss?
Werder Bremen against Eintracht Frankfurt. Eintracht have already conceded 36 goals, only two fewer than bottom-placed Heidenheim. The 22-year-old goalkeeper Kauã Santos seems to further unsettle the shaky defense. The Brazilian may have talent, but he is currently the most error-prone goalkeeper in the league. It’s amazing how big problems you can have when catching crosses at 1.96 meters tall. The good news for Eintracht: Werder haven’t scored a goal at all in the last three games.
Who is in the spotlight?
Lustwin. There are coaches who field their best players. And there is kvasniok. The coach of 1. FC Köln is inscrutable, even for some of his players. The striker Luca Waldschmidt said in an interview with ExpressKwasniok’s decisions are “sometimes difficult to grasp” for him. For this he had to go to the stands in Heidenheim a week ago. Kwasniok put Cologne’s best goalscorer, Saïd El Mala, on the bench in 10 of 17 games. “Saïd is one of the best substitutes the Bundesliga is currently seeing,” says Kwasniok. But maybe he would be an even better regular player.
After eight games without a win, FC is gradually moving towards a dangerous table region. The mood is very poor for the Rhineland. Last weekend, FC fans displayed a banner that read “Kwasni Yok.” Yok means no in Turkish. It would be good if the people of Cologne won again in the duel between the carnival clubs against Mainz – not only for the people of Cologne, but also for us: then hopefully we wouldn’t have to read such a bad pun again.
