A week after the dismissal of Sami Trabelsi following the cruel elimination of Tunisia in the round of 16 of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, against Mali on penalties (1-1, 3 tab to 2), the Carthage Eagles have their new coach. If the name of Nice coach Franck Haise has come up repeatedly in the local press in recent days, it is ultimately the Franco-Tunisian Sabri Lamouchi who will take the reins of the Tunisian selection.
Free from any contract after two mixed experiences in Saudi Arabia, the 54-year-old technician signed up with the Tunisian Football Federation (FFT) until July 31, 2028 this Wednesday. He had already managed Ivory Coast between 2012 and 2014, leading the Elephants to the quarter-finals of the 2013 CAN before resigning a few months later after the painful elimination of his team in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Twelve years later, the former Stade Rennais coach will this time have the opportunity to occupy the Tunisian bench during the 2026 World Cup, in the United States, Mexico and Canada next summer. The Carthage Eagles will face the Netherlands, Japan and an opponent yet to be defined between Sweden, Poland, Ukraine and Albania.
