In a late match on the 14th day of Betclic Elite, Monaco beat Gravelines-Dunkerque 101-82 and therefore retains the lead in the ranking, thanks to a great Mike James (20pts).
Monaco is unstoppable this winter! Undefeated since December 19, the Roca Team scored a ninth victory in a row in all competitions this Tuesday during a late match on the 14th day of Betclic Elite. Leader of the championship, the vice-champion of France hosted Gravelines-Dunkerque, penultimate, and won with a score of 101-82. If the BCM held up well during the first six minutes on the floor of Gaston-Médecin (13-15), Monaco responded with an 8-0 to get on the right trackand the northern club was never again in front on the scoreboard. The Roca Team finally finished the first quarter with a seven-point lead (26-19).
Monaco took its time
In the second, the Monegasques managed well and had a lead of between four and ten points, before returning to the locker room leading 52-44. At the restart, Vassilis Spanoulis’ men did not manage to widen the gap, and the BCM took the opportunity to pick up little by little, and even equalize at 66-66 thirteen minutes from the end of the match. This had the gift of waking up the Principality players, who followed up with a 10-2 to conclude the quarter (76-68). It remained to seal this thirteenth success of the season (the twelfth in the standings, Monaco having lost a victory at the start of the season) in the last quarter, and it was done. Gravelines-Dunkerque never managed to get back below the six-point gap, and ended up giving up in the money-time, notably conceding two 3-point shots from Terry Tarpey and Mathew Strazel in the last minute. This therefore makes a 19 point difference at the finish.
James wears the Roca Team
The great architect of this success is none other than Mike James, author of 20 points, 7/11 on shots, but also 5 assists. Matthew Strazel added 15 points and 6 assists, while Edon Maxhuni’s 19 points were not enough for BCMnow tied (3v-12d) with the first non-relegation, St-Quentin. Monaco finished this match with 54% shooting success and notably benefited from the northern club’s 17 turnovers. On the next day, Saturday, the Monegasques will host Limoges and the BCM will travel to Strasbourg.
