Antoine Semenyo appears to be a bull’s eye for Manchester City for the time being. The 26-year-old attacker, who came from Bournemouth for 72 million euros last Friday, also scored in his second game for the club.
After his goal and assist against Exeter City (10-1) in the FA Cup on Saturday, he was accurate again on Tuesday evening in the semi-finals of the League Cup. He opened the score in the first leg against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park (0-2).
After a cross from Jérémy Doku extended by Bernardo Silva, Semenyo City took the lead in the 53rd minute. Moments later, Semenyo seemed to score another goal, assisted by substitute Tijjani Reijnders, but the goal was disallowed due to offside by Erling Haaland.
Where Reijnders came on against Newcastle, Nathan Aké (City) and Sven Botman (Newcastle United) were in the starting line-up at St. James’ Park. Aké was substituted just before time.
Substitute Rayan Cherki scored the second goal well into injury time. The return is scheduled for early February. Chelsea and Arsenal will play the first leg of their semi-final at Stamford Bridge tomorrow evening.
Griezmann with a beautiful free kick match winner Atlético
In the eighth finals of the Spanish Copa del Rey, Antoine Griezmann was important for Atlético Madrid with a beautiful free kick. In the Riazor stadium of Deportivo de La Coruña (second level) he shot the ball into the crossbar in the 61st minute: 0-1.
Real Madrid will play against Albacete (second level) tomorrow and FC Barcelona will face Racing Santander (also second level) on Thursday. Barça does this without Frenkie de Jong, who has been suspended for one match due to his red card against Real Madrid on Sunday.
Tenth win of the season for Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund recorded its tenth victory of the Bundesliga season. The number two won an unremarkable match against Werder Bremen: 3-0.
Nico Schlotterbeck’s opening goal, a header from a Julian Ryerson corner, was the only highlight of the first half. The whistling of the home fans at the half-time whistle spoke volumes.
After halftime, Dortmund stepped up the pace and made it 2-0 with a nice strike from Marcel Sabitzer. Werder had nothing to say and gave the 3-0 to substitute Serhou Guirassy via Amos Pieper’s mistake.
The Hamburger SV-Bayer Leverkusen match was cancelled. Due to snow and melt water, there was a risk of part of the roof collapsing in the Volkspark Stadium
