Manchester City won this Tuesday in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Newcastle. New recruit Semenyo and Cherki are the two scorers in this match.
Manchester City took a big step towards the League Cup final by winning 2-0 on Tuesday at Newcastle in the semi-final first leg thanks to second-half goals from Antoine Semenyo and Rayan Cherki.
The “Citizens” will have to confirm this result on their return home on February 4, before looking ahead to the final scheduled for March 22 in London, against Arsenal or Chelsea. In the meantime, they emerged victorious from a long indecisive display, quite boring before half-time (no shots on target) and much more lively afterwards.

Returning from the locker room, Newcastle gave James Trafford a cold sweat twice in quick succession, first on a header from Yoane Wissa which the replacement goalkeeper nicely deflected, then on a shot from Bruno Guimaraes repelled by a post (50th). But it was Manchester City who struck first thanks to Semenyo, their new right winger who had just arrived from Bournemouth after a transfer estimated at nearly 75 million euros.
The Ghanaian international born in London took from the left, facing the empty goal, a cross from Jérémy Doku deflected by Bernardo Silva (53rd, 1-0). The one who had already scored in his first match, won 10-1 on Saturday against Exeter (D3) in the FA Cup, was deprived of a double ten minutes later (63rd) after an offside by Erling Haaland which was analyzed at length by the VAR.
Rayan Cherki gave more scope to the visitors’ victory in added time (90th + 9) on a back pass from Rayan Aït-Nouri, another entrant.
Manchester City won four consecutive League Cup titles from 2018 to 2021 but have not reached the final since. Pep Guardiola’s team, second in the Premier League, is in the Top-8 in the Champions League and will compete in the 4th round of the FA Cup in February.
