TRUN. ASKÖ Traun made a spectacular start to the second half of the 1st Badminton Bundesliga on the last matchday. In front of their home crowd, the Trauners celebrated a clear 8-0 win against WAT Simmering and thus impressively took revenge for the clear 1-7 defeat in the first leg.
Both teams had to compete with weakened substitutes, but the Trauners didn’t let that deter them. From the start, the hosts were focused and dominated the game. The lead was increased point by point without letting the opponent come into play. What was particularly pleasing was the comeback of Martina Nöst, who was successfully back in action for the first time after a long injury break.
With the clear victory, ASKÖ Traun not only secured two table points, but also the additional bonus point – an important point in the close battle for semi-final qualification. After five rounds, the Trauners are now in third place in the table and therefore have the best chance of a place in the top 4, which means a place in the semi-finals.
Manager Herbert Koch was correspondingly satisfied after the encounter: “We had actually expected a close fight before the weekend. The fact that we won so clearly in the end is of course pleasing. With this victory we were able to overtake the Viennese in the table and are – behind UBSC Wolfurt (7:1 against Badminton Mödling) and ASV-Pressbaum (7:1 against Union Ohlsdorf) – in third place in the table after five rounds. The top 4 reach the semi-finals, and an important step We have succeeded in this direction today.”
However, there isn’t much time to breathe: the next big challenge awaits on January 24th with the away game against defending champion ASV Pressbaum.
