The French pivot of the Minnesota Timberwolves Rudy Gobert received a one-match suspension due to an accumulation of flagrant fouls, the latest in the victory against San Antonio on Sunday, the NBA announced on Monday.
In a rather good period, Gobert was, however, guilty of another flagrant foul, on his Spurs compatriot Victor Wembanyama, during the last quarter of this meeting. He had let his feet drag under those of Wemby, who had jumped to attempt a shot. When he fell, Wembanyama twisted his ankle.
In the NBA, these actions are particularly monitored by referees because they have in the past caused very serious injuries. For several seasons, defenders trying to block opposing shots have been asked to be careful not to place their feet under those of the attacker.
Rudy Gobert will therefore automatically miss the Wolves’ trip to the Bucks on Tuesday. Minnesota is 4th in the Western Conference with a record of 26 wins and 14 losses. Gobert, 33, had not yet missed a single game this season.
