Still only 17-year-old Slovak ice hockey player Nela Lopušanová is a step away from making her mark in the history of world hockey. She can do it already on Tuesday in the match against the Czech Republic.
We are talking about historical statistics under-18 women’s world championships. Lopušanová is currently in her fourth championship of this category. In total, she scored 20 goals and added 10 assists in 17 duels.
She has a total of 30 points and is in second place in the historical productivity table of the U18 Women’s WC. She is only three points short of the first place. It’s the same with goals, losing only two to first place.
For Lopušanová, these are the last championships of this category, and she will play at least two more matches in them.
On Tuesday, the last duel of the basic group against the Czech Republic and then the quarter-final match. The Slovaks have two matches behind them, first they lost to the USA 0:13 and then they defeated Finland 5:2, Lopušanová scored four goals.
Tuesday’s duel will be for the second place in the group, as the Czechs also lost to the USA 1:9.

Slovak under-18 hockey players beat Finland 5:2 at the world championships of this category in the Canadian cities of Sydney and Membertou. Nela Lopušanová, currently the best scorer of the championship, contributed four goals in her fourth participation in the under-18 championship.
Thanks to the win over Finland, the Slovakians most likely avoided a battle for survival. The Finnish women are only playing against the USA and it is very unlikely that they will succeed.
At the U18 Women’s WC, all teams advance from two groups to the quarter-finals, but after being eliminated in the quarter-finals, the two worst teams from each group play for salvation. Slovak women will be the worst third in the group.
But let’s go back to Nela Lopušanová. If she manages to score two goals and record three points, she will reach 22 goals and 33 points. He will thus call the current leader, the American Kendall Coyne Schoefieldwhich holds the point record from the U18 World Cup since 2010.
She is currently 33 years old and plays in the PWHL, the women’s version of the NHL. He has seven titles from the World Cup or gold from the Olympics.
If Lopušanová matches or surpasses her, she will write indelible letters in the history of women’s youth hockey. And in conclusion, we will just add that although you may feel that she must be older, since we have been registering her in Slovakia for many years, she will only celebrate her 18th birthday this February.
Lopušanová is currently playing at an American high school, she will join the NCAA next season. After finishing school, she should go to the PWHL draft. However, we will have to wait a few more years for that.
